Will Kyrie Irving try to lure Kevin Durant to Boston - or elsewhere?

It is a well-know fact that the NBA's All-Star Weekend is also a time for recruiting. And I mean by that - stars from one team will try to attract other stars to their teams. Kevin Durant is currently earning $30 million for this season with a player option for 2019-20. Kyrie Irving also has a player option on his contract with the Celtics this summer, so the plot thickens.

Durant has been basically signing one year contracts (with player options) with the Golden State Warriors and feeling his way along from year to year. It may be major-decision time this summer. He can opt out of his contract and negotiate a long-term deal with the Warriors or any other team. So can Kyrie Irving (per Bleacher Report's Adam Wells):

Just one of those things where you’re confident in your skills and taking it year by year,” Durant explained. “And keeping my options open was the best thing for me. I could have easily signed a long term deal but I just wanted to take it season by season and see where it takes me. And I think this year is going to be a fun, exciting year for us all. I’m looking forward to just focusing on that and we’ll see what happens after the year.

There are always rumors, but one of them has Kyrie and KD joining forces in New York with the Knicks. I am definitely a homer, but the Boston Celtics have one of the most storied and stable franchises in all of sports. It is true that Danny Ainge may make a concerted play for the Pelicans Anthony Davis this summer, but Kevin Durant-to-Boston is certainly a possibility.

Durant seriously considered Boston as his destination prior to being lured to Golden State by Jerry West. West is with the Clippers now, and his team has cap space for two big names this summer. We may see another tug of war between the basketball masterminds from opposite coasts - West and Ainge. Could be an interesting summer.
